HILCO  Rates  Climb

Yet, Expenditures Increase!*

HILCO has again increased the customer charge -- the third rate in the past 14 months -- by as much as 47% for residential, and almost 52% for non-residential.**

HILCO Electric Approved Base Rates

  Increase from 10/1/2006 -- 11/31/2007 (14 mos.)
10/1/2006 10/31/2006 11/31/2007
Residential: $10.50 $14.50 $15.50 47.62%
Non Residential: $15.50 $22.50 $23.50 51.61%
General Service-small $55.00 $62.00 $67.00 21.82%
General Service-large $55.00 $62.00 $67.00 21.82%

We wish we had been wrong, but we weren't.  We warned months ago that the loss of Holcim would result in higher rates.  This increase will bring HILCO approximately $20,000 a month, or about 1/4th of what Holcim was providing.  They lost Holcim, and now we're paying higher rates for their failures.

So what about our directors?  Are they tightening their belts to get through this financial disaster?

Look at the insert in your recent bill.  The top two pie charts show their expenses for 2006 (left) vs. the first 11 months of 2007 (right).  If you compare their non-power-purchasing expenses to the expense of purchasing power, in 2006, their non-power expenses were 19.94% compared to 80.06%.  In 2007, that rose to 20.46% compared to 80.54%.

Isn't it comforting to know, that while the HILCO Board of Directors is losing clients and raising rates to make up for it, that they apparently aren't depriving themselves of any of their perks and benefits?

For hypocrisy regarding the loss of Holcim, read this comment to see how one board member responded.

* Based upon percentage of non-power-purchasing expenses compared to expense of purchasing power from 2006 to 2007.

** HILCO provided the information rate increase info after being requested by members;  however, they appear to have not provided complete data on Large Public Buildings.  We believe the percentage increase is similar to that of General Service Large and General Service Small (+21.82%), but cannot be 100% positive because of missing/incomplete data.
